Discover the Art of Traditional Stone Carving
Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the fundamentals of stone carving using time-honored hand tools. In just two and a half hours, you'll gain experience with the three essential tools of the trade, and learn how to carve both lettering and a simple low-relief design.

No prior experience is needed — beginners welcome!
All materials, including tools and stone, are provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes for safety.

The workshop will be held outdoors under some shade and a canopy in the event of a little drizzle. In the case of very bad weather in the forecast, we will have a rain date on Sunday 10/5. Each student will leave with their very own carved stone creation!

This workshop is limited to 8. Each student will get plenty of personal attention.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Bethany Lee is a sculptor, working as a traditional stone carver in the DC and Blue Ridge Mountain areas. She enjoys teaching workshops and creating sculptures and lettering projects on commission. Bethany holds a BA in sculpture (’03) from the University of Dallas, and she is a 2019 graduate from the drawing and painting program at the Florence Academy of Art (Jersey City location). When not in the studio, Bethany can often be found entertaining her nieces and nephew, reading at a local coffee shop, or wandering around in the woods somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
