Get outdoors with this introduction to plant-based printing processes that use light and common plant materials obtained from our property at The Workshop! This 3-day camp-style workshop will show you the basics of anthotype & chlorophyll printing, as well as Polaroid emulsion lifts, Gelli-printing methods with photos & cyanotypes.

Why not treat yourself to a summer CAMP this August!? Camp doesn’t have to just be for the kids! Come immerse yourself in a fun environment for 3 days delving into the magical world of alternative techniques!

This Friday-Sunday all-day ADULT CAMP will run 10-4 with an hour each day for lunch included (your choice & provided by Glowbowl Cafe).

We will explore alternative photography processes that encourage creativity and curiosity—cyanotypes, photo-based transfers, & camera-less image making. Emphasis will be placed on exploration, problem-solving, and developing a personal artistic voice, all within a supportive and engaging studio environment. By the end of the camp, each student will leave with a collection of unique, handcrafted pieces and a deeper understanding of different creative processes they can continue to build on.

Price includes all supplies + lunch of your choice to be chosen in advance.

Limited to 5 students with plenty of personal attention.

SCHEDULE (Subject to change based on weather)

DAY ONE, Friday, August 14th:

A little background on the history of early color processes and technology of two different processes to play with.

• Cyanotypes - experiment with traditional leaf printing cyanotypes as well as photographic prints using cyanotype. Print on paper, rocks and other substrates of your choice. Students are encouraged to bring any textiles or natural porous surfaces to print on

• Anthotypes - learn how to use different plants, spices and berries, water and a little bit of rubbing alcohol to create your own anthotype emulsion to then print with using the sun.

DAY TWO, Saturday, August 15th:

• Polaroid photography - Learn a bit about Instant photography and how it’s evolved then we’ll learn a bit about some of Cary’s cameras and take one outside to shoot with. Create some images that we will then create emulsion lifts with - entirely new, dreamlike images into paper or other substrates. Feel free to bring a special rock or shell to try lifting your image onto.

• Examples will be shown of “souping” of Polaroids and you can try your own with some of your images - each student with get one roll of Polaroid film to play with (8 images total)

DAY THREE, Sunday, August 16th:

• Learn how to print photographs onto leaves that we forage together from the property. Using chlorophyll printing, we will use actual photographs that we take (or bring your own image to use). Consider using something that is not super detailed and that will translate well to B&W.

• While our prints are “developing” outside, we will end the day playing with Gelli plate printing using high contrast photographs to create image transfers.
