DRYPOINT ETCHING WORKSHOP
Drypoint Etching for Beginners
taught by Diane Wilkin
Saturday, November 21st, 10-1
Tuition: $135 Materials fee: $10, total $145
Discover the basics of intaglio printmaking in this hands-on drypoint etching class. You’ll scribe an image directly into a plexiglass plate, with no acid and no toxic fumes. Then comes the fun part: slather the plate with ink and wipe it “clean,” so ink stays only in the grooves you’ve drawn. Under the heavy pressure of an etching press, that ink transfers to damp paper and your image appears.
Beginners are welcome! Slip a 5x7 sketch or photo under the clear plate and simply trace the lines. One thing to remember: the print is a mirror image of what you draw, so check your design in a mirror first!
Come get messy & bring your imagination and, if you like, a 5x7 sketch or photo to work from. Bring your own work shirt (or we have aprons) and your lunch. All other materials are provided.
You’ll have an “Ah, HA!” moment when you pull your first print. You’ll take home two prints and your scribed plate, and all three are works of art.
