Most of these FAQs pertain to ceramics classes, but will be expanded as we grow.

  • Clay can be messy. The lighter-colored clay bodies will wash out of most clothing. Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Rings and necklaces should be removed and long hair tied back. We will provide aprons to use during classes.

For other classes, you may also wish to wear clothing that can get a little messy.

  • In an effort to keep class sizes small and intimate, and due to limitations of our space, classes will be kept to 5 students for the time being. Workshop size depends on the workshop and its needs. We ask that all attendees must be paying students.

Other workshops have anywhere from 5-10 attendees and will be noted in their description.

  • As the class sizes are kept small, for now the classes will be general and tailored to suit. As things progress, more advanced classes will be offered. A quick conversation can help us fit you into the most appropriate class. As the complexity increases, certain abilities are required so the participant doesn’t struggle and other students aren’t slowed down.

  • Yes! We are open to working with different groups or individuals to plan a special event or staff retreat in ceramics or alternative photography.

E-mail us with your ideas and we’d love to accommodate you!

  • Pieces will take between 2-4 weeks from completion to glaze-fired. We will do our best to get pieces through the firing cycle as efficiently as possible and notify you in person or by email when they are completed.

  • Clay is inherently fragile at all stages of the creative process. We do our best to help you avoid disappointing accidents and we will do all we can to protect your work through the firings, but clay objects break, it is a fact of life in a clay studio for which we cannot be held responsible.

  • The finished glazes will be food-safe except when specifically noted for sculptural or decorative work. Most of the clay bodies we use will be oven, microwave, and dishwasher-safe.

  • We can work with students on a case-by-case basis. If there is an open slot in another class, the student is allowed to attend that class. But, typically, there are no make-up classes; however we do our best to accommodate people and get them up to speed with what was missed.

  • If the Workshop must cancel a class due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the class will be added to the end of the calendar for that class. If we have to cancel a class due to weather or otherwise, we will typically let you know as soon as we know via email unless you ask us to contact you a different way.

  • Workshops: This includes any of our Workshops, Date Nights, Raku Firings, and other One-Time Events. Please give as much advance notice as possible if you need to cancel! Within 7 days of the workshop, we are happy to credit you for another workshop. Within 48 hours of the workshop time, we cannot issue a credit or refund. Credits can be used for up to 1 year from the date of purchase.

Private Workshops + Classes: 7+ days prior to the workshop, we can issue a full credit or a refund with a $40 processing fee. Within 48 hours of the class/workshop time, we cannot issue a credit or refund. Credits can be used for up to one year from the date of purchase.

We reserve the right to cancel any class or workshop due to insufficient enrollment up to 5 business days prior to the scheduled start date of an offering. When a class or workshop is canceled by The Workshop, a full refund will be issued.

  • The Workshop serves primarily as the studio space for Judd & Cary; however, we want to hold classes and workshops regularly, so while we may dedicate some space in the barn to selling our creations, space will be limited. However, during our open houses several times a year, we will be selling our wares and will market those in advance, so we recommend you stay connected with us via our e-newsletter by signing up at the bottom of the page. We sometimes will also sell at other pop-up shops + markets, which will be announced on social media or our e-newsletter. We also hope to eventually have some inventory for sale from this website.

  • Cary needs a little time to acclimate to her new studio and her analog materials which have been forever-changing over the years. The hope is it will be by spring or summer, but please be patient and stay tuned for more in the future.

  • We are excited to explore different disciplines at The Workshop and have started offering classes/workshops in all kinds of art forms to include painting (oil & watercolor), stone carving, and others but hope to also explore disciplines such as printmaking, alternative photography, textiles, drawing, collage, jewelry-making, and mixed media in the near future. If you would be interested in teaching a class or workshop with us, we look forward to hearing from you. Please e-mail us!
