Spend a leisurely morning and afternoon exploring your connection with the natural world, your own intuitive creativity, and a sense of ritual through an art-making process. We will take a mindful walk around the land of Timber Ridge, collecting and foraging inspirations for our art pieces, and then learn a wet-on-dry watercolor painting practice within the Studio space. There will be plenty of time to relax and notice your surroundings, while cultivating a sense of care and reciprocity with the seasonal world outside. All materials will be provided, and all levels of watercolor experience are welcome, including absolute beginners. Bring your own lunch; refreshments and treats will be provided. This workshop is especially for you if you'd like to lean into a felt sense of connection with the natural world, through art making and supportive collective care.
Lyall Harris is a visual artist, writer and arts educator. Her artwork has been widely exhibited and recognized with numerous awards, including the George Hitchcock Prize for painting from the National Academy of Design (NY) and a Purchase Award in Book Art from the University of Utah for a fifteen-book, site-specific project. Her book art can be found in over seventy Special Collection libraries and museums across the United States, including those at Yale, Stanford, Smith, UC Berkeley, UCLA, the University of Washington and in the Betty Boyd Dettre Library at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. In 2026, Lyall was nominated and shortlisted for the National Museum of Women in the Arts international initiative, Women to Watch 2027. Two collections of poetry are forthcoming: Enough from UnCollected Press and Barrier Island, shortlisted for the Anne Sexton Poetry Prize, from Black Spring Press Group. Lyall holds a BA in Art History from Northwestern University (Phi Beta Kappa) and an MFA in Book Art and Creative Writing (Poetry) from Mills College. She has taught book art at the University of Virginia and James Madison University as well as numerous workshops in a variety of venues in the US.
