Build a Ceramic Wind Chime

Create your own handcrafted ceramic wind chime in this two-part workshop that combines creativity, craftsmanship, and sound.
During the first session, Making Day, you'll hand-build and decorate each component of your wind chime, including the bell-shaped chimes, clappers, and wind sails. You'll learn ceramic hand-building techniques while designing pieces that reflect your own personal style. After class, your work will be professionally fired and prepared for the second session.
On Building Day, you'll return to assemble your fired pieces into a finished wind chime. You'll learn the best techniques for balancing and stringing ceramic chimes for both beauty and sound, then add your own finishing touches before leaving with a one-of-a-kind, ready-to-hang musical work of art that will bring beauty to your home or garden for years to come.
Price includes clay, glazes, use of basic tools and firing with pieces being ready to take home on the last Saturday.
The workshop will be limited to 8 students, ages 16 and older, and each student will get plenty of personal attention.

Emy Teach is a ceramics artist located in Buena Vista, VA who enjoys finding ways to incorporate the beauty of nature into her work.
Her first ceramics class was at Tidewater Community College in 2015 where she fell in love with the craft. After receiving her BA she went on to teach high schoolers pottery basics, wheel throwing, hand building, mold making, slip casting, decorating techniques, and glazing at the Norfolk Governors School of Art, and later at Maple Hall Academy in Lexington, VA until 2022.
Emy now works as a production potter for Earth, Fire, Spirit Pottery where she explores new methods, forms, and techniques everyday. From this she looks forward to teaching again and sharing what she’s learned to those wanting to begin their own pottery journey.
